MAGALCON PLUS ®– Magaldrate USP & Simethicone USP

COMPOSITION

Available in single dosage forms:

MAGALCON PLUS® Suspension: Each 5ml contains Magaldrate USP 480 mg & Simethicone USP 20 mg.

PHARMACOLOGY

Magaldrate neutralizes gastric acid, thereby increasing pH of stomach and duodenal bulb. It also increases lower esophageal sphincter tone and inhibits smooth muscle contraction and gastric emptying. Simethicone lowers the surface tension of gas bubbles.

INDICATION

Hyperacidity, gastric and duodenal ulcer, gastritis, heartburn, dyspepsia, gastroesophalgeal reflux. It is also indicated for the relief of flatulence, abdominal distension and windy colic.

DOSGE AND ADMINISTRATION

Magalcon plus Suspension: 2-4 teaspoonfuls (10-20 ml) of suspension, 20 to 60 minutes after meals and at bed time, or as directed by the physician.

PREGNANCY AND LACTION

Pregnant women: Magaldrate may be used in pregnancy if indicated. However, one should avoid excessive dosage. Lactating mother: Magaldrate may pass into breast milk but has not been reported to cause problem in nursing babies.

CONTRAINDICATION

Intestinal obstruction, renal function impairment, appendicitis, chronic diarrhea, sensitivity to aluminium, magnesium and simethicone.

SIDE EFFECT

Constipation, diarrhea, intestinal pain.

PRECAUTION

Should be cautions, if allergic to any ingredient to magaldrate and simethicone suspension, with a history of kidney problems or taking citrate salts (found in some calcium supplements, antacids and laxative). Do not take with tetracycline antibiotics. Antacids can interfere with the absorption of iron preparation.
