Description:

Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate is a steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (SAIDS) that acts as analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties by blocking the activity of cyclooxygenase-1 and -2 (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes reversibly decreasing the production of proinflammatory prostaglandin precursors.

Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate BP

COMPOSITION

Each ml contains Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate USP 2 mg.

MODE OF ACTION

Methavet® Injection (Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate BP 2 mg) is a steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (SAIDS) that acts as analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties by blocking the activity of cyclooxygenase-1 and -2 (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes reversibly decreasing the production of proinflammatory prostaglandin precursors.

INDICATION

Methavet® Injection (Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate BP 2 mg) is the lifesaving drug. It is indicated in mastitis, endometritis, arthritis, laminitis, dermatitis, pneumonia, bronchitis, allergy, ketosis, shock (being hit by a car, attacked by another animal or usually slip & hypovolemic or surgical shock), Supportive therapy (Insect bite, snake bite, shipping fever, retention of placenta etc.), Induction of parturition, Immunosuppressive, Nervous system disorder, Blood calcium reduction, Cancer therapy etc.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

Route of administration:  IM/IV injection.

Cattle: 2.5-10 ml (5-20 mg), repeat as per need.

Horse: 1.25-2.5 ml (2.5-5 mg), repeat as need.

Dog/Cat: 0.50 ml (1 mg) daily for 3-5 days. In case of shock dose should be 5 mg/kg IV.

Or, as per the direction of a Registered Veterinarian.

 CONTRAINDICATION

NSAID Do not use in animals hypersensitive to dexamethasone. This drug should not be used in combination with NSAID due to chance of peptic ulcer occurrences.

SIDE EFFECT

Common side effects: May suppress the immune system and muscular weakness may occur.

Rare side effects: “Cushingoid” in nature with sustained use, but acute effects (primarily GI, colon perforation in dogs after high doses) can be seen. Animals receiving Dexamethasone solution should be under close observation, as it may induce the first stage of parturition when administered during the last trimester of pregnancy, and may precipitate parturition followed by dystocia, fetal death, retained placenta and metritis.

USE IN PREGNANCY AND LACTATION

Abortion may occur in pregnant animal.

WITHDRAWAL PERIOD

Meat- 2 days and Milk- 21 hours.

STORAGE

Store away from light in a cool and dry place.

Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
