PRESENTATION
ZIFORT® syrup is lemon yellow colored and Raspberry flavored 100 ml syrup.

COMPOSITION
ZIFORT® syrup: Each 5 ml syrup contains Zinc sulphate monohydrate BP equivalent to elemental Zinc 10 mg.

PHARMACOLOGY
Zinc sulphate (Zinc) is an essential trace element which is involved in a number of body enzyme activity. Severe Zinc deficiency causes skin lesion, alopecia, diarrhoea, increased susceptibility of infections and failure to thrive in children. Symptoms of less severe deficiency include distorted or absent perceptions of taste and smell and delayed wound healing.

INDICATION
ZIFORT® is indicated for the treatment and prophylaxis of Zinc deficiency, diarrhoea, severe growth retardation, recurrent RTI, loss of appetite, anaemia, mental disturbances, night blindness, weak bones, impaired immune response, acrodermati¬tis, enteropathica and delayed wound healing.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Child under 10 kg: 5 ml (1 teaspoonful) 2 times daily after food.
Child between 10-30 kg: 10 ml ( 2 teaspoonful ) 1-3 times daily after food.
Adults and child over 30 kg: 20 ml (teaspoonful) 1-3 times daily after food.
This drug is most effective if they are taken at least 1 hour before or 2 hour after meals. However, if causes stomach upset, this may be taken with a meal. This medicine should be used regularly to get the most benefit from it.

PREGNANCY AND LACTATION
Zinc is used during pregnancy & lactation at a dose of 20 mg per day. Zinc crosses the placenta & is present in breast milk.

CONTRAINDICATION
It is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to Zinc.

PRECAUTION
Accumulation of Zinc may occur in case of renal failure.

SIDE EFFECT
Zinc Sulphate may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach upset, heartburn and gastritis.

DRUG INTERACTION
Concomitant intake of a tetracycline and zinc may decrease the absorption of both the tetracycline and zinc. Similarly concomitant administration of zinc and quinolone may also decrease the absorption of both. Concomitant intake of penicillamine and zinc may decrease the absorption of zinc.

OVERDOSAGE
Symptoms of overdose may include severe nausea, vomiting, dizziness, fainting and shortness of breath. If overdose is suspected, then contact with local poison control center or emergency room may be needed.

STORAGE
Store in a cool, dry place & below 30° C. Protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
